EDGE: Building Defence Capability with Southeast Asia's Industry

12 August 2026

Southeast Asia's armed forces face a defence equation few regions match in complexity. Contested waters in the South China Sea, sprawling archipelagic geography, and the need to protect exclusive economic zones (EEZs) all demand capability that spans domains, while still being interoperable, cost-effective, and locally sustainable.

A systems integrator, not a product house

EDGE was built differently, designed to compete internationally from day one. Rather than developing standalone platforms in isolation, EDGE is a complete systems integrator, connecting sensors, platforms, effectors, communications, and command architectures into unified, mission-ready frameworks. This approach allows forces to close the gap between detection and decision faster, and coordinate across previously siloed domains.

Southeast Asia has been named as one of EDGE’s most active export markets, reflecting a deliberate, sustained focus on the region.

Naval systems

That demand spans every domain: maritime surveillance, airborne ISR, precision strike, electronic warfare, and autonomous systems all working together. EDGE’s naval range spans corvettes and offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) for sustained presence, fast attack and interceptor craft for rapid response, and autonomous surface vessels for persistent, uncrewed surveillance, configurable to match the right vessel to the right mission across contested waters and EEZs.

Airborne systems

From intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) to unmanned combat and loitering munitions, EDGE’s air platforms extend coverage over coastal and border approaches, with modular payload architecture to allow operators to configure platforms for mission-specific requirements.

Precision strike and air defence

Reach and awareness are only useful if they can be acted on. EDGE's range spans precision-guided munitions at short and long range, and inner layer air defence systems that protect airspace from rockets, artillery, and airborne threats.

Electronic warfare and sensors

A combination of radars, electro-optics, jammers, and interception systems gives forces the ability to detect, track, and protect against threats across the electromagnetic spectrum. This includes mobile, rapidly deployable systems to counter the growing threat of unauthorised drone activity.

The result is capability that can be configured to a nation’s specific requirements, whether the priority is coastal security, border protection, air defence, or a combination of all three, without forcing a choice between depth in one domain and coverage across several.

Partnerships already proving the model

That capability is already being delivered through partnership. In late 2025, EDGE and Republikorp, Indonesia's national defence holding company, signed a USD 7 billion cooperation agreement, EDGE's largest international programme to date, encompassing technology transfer, localised production, co-development initiatives, and a comprehensive modernisation programme for the Indonesian Armed Forces.

In Malaysia, EDGE took a similarly partner-led approach with Ketech Asia, building on an initial 2023 reseller agreement into a deeper technology-transfer and local-manufacturing partnership for the CAR 816 assault rifle.

Both examples reflect the same underlying goal: building sovereign capability faster, in partnership with the industry already in place.

Global experience, local execution.
